Trying something new
Having followed Jon Rappoport for years, I ended up discovering Substack. Jon had a blog on WordPress for a long, long time, but they finally shut him down, which disgusted me, I was so disappointed in them, so angry, so appalled that they could do that, just kill his blog, without even giving him a reason, just take it away from his readers. I had thought it was a good platform and all for free speech, but apparently not. He eventually set up his own website and then began posting on Substack too.
I’d never heard of it but began to investigate, browsing the content and was really inspired by the stuff I found. I discovered many, many people I really like and resonate with, all kinds of fellow souls, expressing their truth. There are all kinds of creative people on there, from ‘big’ famous people, like Patti Smith, Chuck Palahniuk, Naomi Wolf, all of whom I follow, they have really inspiring, interesting stuff, but many, many others; ‘ordinary’ people who have great stuff to share because anyone can use it and one day I just thought why don’t I give it a try?
I really like the platform, it’s simple to use, it does stand for free speech; people who write on there and the readers, seem to care about stuff, are very aware and open, very creative, it’s a good place to be. So I started my own. I just felt drawn there, something about it felt right and people were free to speak their truth. I love my blog on WP, I have a real soft spot for it, I still remember writing my first post, it’s what got me started, daring to share my writing, my experiences and feelings in this crazy world and the chance to connect with people and I’ve connected with some great people, fellow souls on here who have meant a great deal to me and I will always continue to post there, but ever since Jon Rappoport got taken down, it seemed a bit tainted for me, like could they do that to me? Who knows what they might take ‘offence’ over? One day might I say something ‘too far’, or not ‘acceptable’ in their judgement and it nagged at me, I felt like I was looking over my shoulder sometimes and I’d been wondering if there was anywhere that was truly free, where you could not be hampered or restrained by this idea of any kind of ‘thought police’ overlooking what you were doing. So once I discovered Substack it seemed to be the answer, seemed natural.
So I use both now. I have put the same post on both, maybe once or twice, but don’t really like doing that and mostly do new, separate ones for each. So if you haven’t already, go and have a browse on Substack, there are some really great people on there and anyone can start their own, it’s really easy to use; there’s great, empowering information, great creative and inspiring stuff. Most people have both free and paid subscribers, but I can tell you there is enough free stuff to keep you reading, that’s well worth your time, I’m only subscribed to free stuff, having no money right now, but there is a lot of value in it, people are very generous with their creative energy. The option is there to take out a paid subscription and people do it to help writers, reporters, creatives that they like and really want to support, which I think is amazing and I would love to be able to support all those I appreciate, but I can’t do it right now. I’ll link Jon Rappoport’s Substack below and my own, but there’s so much to explore on there and it’s all worthwhile, it’s a serious, valuable platform, geared to writers and readers, unlike so much of other social media. There’s such a range of creative, interesting, valuable, thought-provoking stuff on there, it’s a real source of inspiration and comfort. It’s great to find somewhere these days that is so meaningful and inspiring.
